Dear SMAG Member

Last month we highlighted our guidance for your Bin Hub re-location application submissions which need to follow the Council’s rules and register your own comments on what ‘residential amenity’ means.

However, we need to have information on all applications made either through SMAG or on an individual basis so that we can show the overall levels of progress we are making.

  1. If you have already submitted an application to the CEC please let us know by responding to this email.
  2. If you are intending to make a submission, either individually or as a group, SMAG will support your application by providing guidance on the process.  Please contact us at [email protected]
  3. Applications to move / change Bin-Hubs should be made to:

Anne Christie, Project Officer, The City of Edinburgh Council, Communal Bin Review Team, Waste and Cleansing Services, Seafield Depot, 1 Fillyside Road Edinburgh EH7 6RD.      [email protected]  www.edinburgh.gov.uk

More information about the Communal Bin Review is on the CEC webpage at the link below.

General Meeting of SMAG Members

The campaign to make submissions to the CEC on relocation Bin Hubs is urgent, and vital to our campaign. The CEC intends to review Bin Hub locations from June 2025 and so we must ensure that ANY RESIDENT who has concerns about the location of any Bin Hub makes a submission. Members of the Committee will be canvassing the area with copies of the SMAG submission form and explanations of the issues for residents. It is our belief that any submission that misses a May Deadline could well be ignored or at least placed at the bottom of a long queue of CEC actions. With this in mind, we propose to hold a Public Meeting* of all SMAG members or interested parties to discuss this and other ideas for the future. This meeting will be held at:

Marchmont St Giles Church Hall on Thursday 24th April @ 6.30pm

*There will be a cash collection at the meeting to fund the hall fees.

This meeting will also provide momentum to our plans for the next year and so we are very keen to see a good attendance. High numbers at such a meeting will give weight to our dealings with the CEC. – PLEASE TRY TO ATTEND!

Proposal for SMAG to become an associate Member of MSCC

As we reported, SMAG has been invited to become a nominated group of Community Council and we can submit our application for this after SMAG’s first anniversary in April.

Bin Hubs & Noise

So far, there is still uncertainty about CEC action on noise and your committee will be working on a ‘Noise Campaign’ once we have completed the Relocations Submissions project.

South Meadows Action Group Website

Work continues on a SMAG Website.  This work has all been done by one of our residents and will make communication and access to information much easier.

Next Meeting

Our next SMAG Committee is meeting on April 10th Any thoughts / ideas you may have should be emailed to [email protected]

New Members

It is clear that working together does have an impact.  Please spread the word to recruit new members to SMAG. Things should be easier once we have our website up and running. We are also looking for new Committee Members – COULD YOU VOLUNTEER?

Here is the web link to the CEC Bin Complaints section (we have had a report of rats around the Bin Hub in Bruntsfield, near the School):
